An Immersive Canopy of Light and Motion

Commissioned for the world-renowned Vivid Sydney light festival, River of Fire was a spectacular, large-scale site adaptation installed at the festival’s bustling Fire Kitchen. Suspended 4.5 meters above a high-traffic pedestrian walkway, this massive 70-meter span transformed a major transitional corridor into a vibrant, sensory-rich destination that captivated crowds throughout the three-week event.

The Design & Engineering

To bring this adaptation to life, the installation utilized 250 custom LED light tubes configured across two engineered structural sections. Suspended via a robust truss system and a custom-designed rigging net, the architecture seamlessly integrated into the space to create a “floating” overhead current.

The Experience

Evoking the fluid, hypnotic motion of a river of energy flowing overhead, River of Fire showcased the ultimate capability of LiquidPXL’s modular DNA. The dynamic programming featured shifting gradients and custom light tube choreography that mirrored the intense energy of the Fire Kitchen below—proving once again how minimal, linear forms can completely reimagine public spaces, slow audiences down, and turn a simple walk into an extraordinary shared experience.
